I read WANTED a while ago and though it was a read, that's it. I got nothing from the story. You are correct, the book is a big FUCK YOU! from Mark Millar to comic book fans who where to blind to see that he is taunting them. It serves no purpose, has no value. It is a regurgitation of comic book and pop culture zeitgeist. As the norms can't do nothing to stop it because the Fraternity runs the show. Great review, thanks.

Really? didn't know that. How far back was it and what did he do? I clearly remember the Punisher killing Wolverine at one point...

Punisher has done some things to Daredevil that were too stupid to forgive. :)

My parents were adopted, so it's possible! I should totally get my blood tested for chess genes..

But I didnt know he had shot himself in the face, it was just a tangent.

Or maybe it was all just a coincidence! I wonder what the odds are? what do you think Btw. You bear a striking resemblance to Ruslan Ponomariov in your face. Maybe he's a distant Ukrainian cousin of yours and you are bio-determined to play chess. Don't deny it, its inevitable! IT'S YOUR DESTINY!!

Of course! It's all a social Lamarckian construct that made Hemingway's macabre act, along with at least eight(!) other decedents from his paternal line who suffered from depression(among those were his sister, brother, father and at least two grandchildren all whom committed suicide) occur.

I see now you were referencing "Torrents of Spring" or "Sun also Rises" which both dealt with anxiety arising from sexual dysfunction , however, the ambiguous comment "shoot me in the face"(Hemingway put a double-barreled shotgun to his eyes) comes across as a clear reference to his suicide.

Well, this is why I think you actually should like the Punisher. He's supposed to be a hero, I mean, he got a noble motif and all, but the writers are sort of playing with the idea of what a hero can and can't do. He's brutal yes, but it's effective, what if (for example) Batman just killed the joker the first time around, instead of imprisoning him time and time again. it would make Batman a killer, but it would also save a lot of lives. Oh, and consequencelessness is a great word!

And Wanted, well, it kinda read like the work of a 15 year old moron who just had his first glimpse of a good idea, and then ruined it all cause of his raging hormones and ADD. It was seriously lame, insulting and depressing, like, you get that feeling he really believes his readers are all nerdy teenagers types looking for some deep philosophical truths into the Matrix or something... Errr, do I make sense?

Well, I tend to think that Mark Millar's heart really is in the right place (the way he tries to be subversive and stuff), but quite often it's the execution that really lacks heavily in terms of subtlety and genuine insight.

ps bio-determinism is bullshit.

Oh I didnt really clue into the celebrity worship thing, I just thought it was supposed to make it recognizable. I think I got what he was trying to do, that it was subversive, but I wonder if the last 2 pages were too little too late after the orgy of grotesquery that preceded it. And I thought it was kind of critique of Watchmen too, rather then an homage?
