seggymon ::: Favorites i think he definately would have been in the top 5 because it had been so long since anyone won the triple crown...but now he's probably not even in the top 25. 07-09-03 00:37:40 _____________________________________________________
jasoncoc ::: Favorites Some others are, Stewart Elliott didn't have to whip Smarty one time in the Preakness, that may have gave Elliott a false sense of security coming down the Belmont stretch, being that he didn't think Bird was really going to catch him until he looks back and sees him still there and then decides to give him another whip, and by that time it was too late, the race was lost. But other than that, it was Birdstone's day, plain and simple. 07-08-22 01:48:09 _____________________________________________________
jasoncoc ::: Favorites The question about Edgar Prado and Birdstone doing something wrong is really crazy and here are some of the reasons, when watching the Belmont I counted the seconds on the bottom of the screen, from the time Birdstone reaches Eddington until the time he passes Smarty's nose is a mere 37 seconds!!! That was pure speed, nothing more. 07-08-22 01:35:48 _____________________________________________________
balarat84 ::: Favorites correction in my statement Seattle Slew was undeafted to triple... 07-08-21 11:35:56 _____________________________________________________
balarat84 ::: Favorites Well ,Smarty would be that triple crown winner that at that last stride for the finish always broke free to win. Smarty like Barbaro where undefeated horses if either would of won the triple it would be quite impressive. Then you have that Philadelphia connection of a champ from Philly.Smarty wasnt the biggest but he knew how to win . Truth is a horse like Sham was faster then alot of horses but really never got hes total respect that he deserves 07-08-21 11:24:05 _____________________________________________________
jasoncoc ::: Favorites I wonder if Smarty had won the Belmont (triple crown) where he would have put as far as in the top 20, 10, or 5 on the greatest horses of all time list, what's everyone else think? 07-08-21 11:04:00 _____________________________________________________
balarat84 ::: Favorites I agree 07-08-18 23:41:06 _____________________________________________________
jasoncoc ::: Favorites NAME Starts Win Place Show Earnings 1 Garrett K. Gomez 802 173 126 121 $13,375,014 2 Edgar S. Prado 911 173 147 113 $11,704,735 These are the current top two stats for jockies, I don't think Edgar Prado needed to cheat to beat Smarty Jones, Prado is a great jocky and ran Birdstone just right in the 04 Belmont. 07-08-18 13:44:55 _____________________________________________________
jasoncoc ::: Favorites Calumet Farm is both the leading breeder and owner of Preakness winners with seven each. Set by Tank's Prospect in 1985 and equaled by Louis Quatorze in 1996 and Curlin in 2007, the speed record for the current 1-3/16 miles (1.91 km) Preakness is 1:53 2/5 seconds. The record victory margin is 11½ lengths, by Smarty Jones in 2004. 07-08-18 13:17:17 _____________________________________________________
balarat84 ::: Favorites totally agree, thats what makes this of all sports the hardest to achieve.How in the hell do you think Sham felt one the fastests but was in the same class as Sec. could of one all three . 07-08-18 10:57:15 _____________________________________________________ |
