Description:

Fifty surfers took to the waters around Manhattan on the morning of Monday, August 13, 2007, for Sea Paddle NYC, a fundraiser for autism awareness. Spearheaded by Andrew Mencinsky, executive director of the Surfers' Environmental Alliance, or SEA, weekend surf riders and pros alike embarked on a twenty eight mile journey from New York's South Street Seaport and arrived at the North Cove Marina in a little under six hours. This year's SEA Paddle was the first ever surf paddle around the island of Manhattan and featured participants on traditional lay down surf boards as well as on stand up paddle boards. All money raised by this event will go to fund autism awareness and organizations that support autism awareness, including Autism Speaks.
